Kaizer Chiefs kept their CAF Confederation Cup hopes alive after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over ZESCO United in their Group D clash played over the weekend.
The Glamour Boys started the match with purpose and were rewarded early when Glody Lilepo found the net in the 14th minute, scoring what proved to be the winning goal. Chiefs attacked with confidence in the opening stages and took control of the game after going ahead.
ZESCO United pushed for an equaliser, especially in the second half, but Chiefs stood firm at the back. Their defence stayed organised, while goalkeeper and defenders made key blocks and clearances to protect the slim lead.
The win completed a double over ZESCO United, following Chiefs’ away victory in the previous group match. More importantly, the three points moved Amakhosi to the second sport of Group D standings and kept them firmly in the race for a place in the knockout stages.
Although it was not a flashy performance, Chiefs showed maturity, discipline and game management, the qualities needed in continental football. The result means their qualification fate is now in their own hands as they head into the remaining group matches.
With momentum on their side, Kaizer Chiefs will look to build on this win and keep their Confederation Cup journey alive.
