SWITCH Energy Drink has teamed up with OMODA South Africa to improve the lives of South African citizens.

Switch, through the “Switch Up Your Life” competition, handed over 20 brand new OMODA C7s to the lucky winners during the month of love (February).

The competition started in September last year and finished in January this year.

Zhuraan Glade, head of marketing at Switch Energy Drink, said as a company they’re committed to working to improve the lives of South Africans.

This car giveaway campaign may be their first ever, but surely not their last.

Said Glade: “Previously, we focused on targeted competitions like our partnership with Pick n Pay, where we gave away six double full-experience trips to London’s Twickenham Stadium to watch the Springboks play England, along with smaller giveaways on our digital channels.”

She said millions of people across the country participated in the competition, and they wanted to win, but unfortunately only 20 people had to win it.

“With millions of entries, we couldn’t change every life this time, but we did change some. The draw was fair and independently audited.”

Will Mxabanisi, a student from Cape Town, and Christine Warden (31) from Kempton Park were two of the 20 people who walked away with the brand new OMODA C7.

Warden tells her story: “I actually saw this strip on a can one day and decided if you don’t try, you’ll never know. And I started doing the submissions and entering for the competition, and, well, what do you know? Here I am being a winner.”

Mxabanisi, who thought that it was only elderly people who won competitions, was proven wrong when he picked up a call telling him he won a brand new car.

“I always assumed that age played a factor when you entered these types of competitions, so I thought maybe they gave it to couples or the elderly or something like that, but it turns out that wasn’t the case.”

Lungelo Zwane, brand manager at OMODA, said the collaboration demonstrated the power of two brands coming together with a shared purpose.
