Gauteng MEC for Finance and Economic Development Lebogang Maile will on Sunday 01 February 2026 outline the state of municipal finances in the province at a media briefing hosted at InvestSA Gauteng in Sandton.

The briefing comes as municipalities face continued pressure from weak revenue collection, rising costs, and service delivery demands. Gauteng’s municipalities play a critical role in supporting economic activity, infrastructure development, and basic service provision.

MEC Maile is expected to present an overview of revenue and expenditure performance, cash-flow stability, and compliance with financial governance standards. He will also outline provincial interventions aimed at improving financial management, accountability, and oversight at municipal level.

Strong municipal finances are essential for sustaining services such as water, electricity, sanitation, and waste management, while ensuring long-term infrastructure investment.

The address is expected to provide insight into how the provincial government plans to stabilise municipal finances, strengthen governance, and support sustainable service delivery across Gauteng.
