YOUTH TECH EXPO EMPOWERS KAGISO YOUTH WITH DIGITAL SKILLS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Kagiso buzzed with energy as young people from across the West Rand gathered at Kagiso Hall for the two-day Youth Tech Expo. Hosted by the Gauteng Department of e-Government, the event aimed to equip youth with essential digital skills and connect them to career opportunities in the fast-growing digital economy.


The expo focused on technology for economic inclusion, social impact, e-waste management, and job creation, with a strong spotlight on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other digital platforms. Attendees learned practical ways to earn income, start businesses, and build sustainable careers.


Gauteng Department of e-Government Chief of Staff Wiseman Simelane said, “The Youth Tech Expo equips young people with hands-on digital skills and real opportunities. Technology is a tool for innovation, economic growth, and job creation.”


Participants had access to internships, bursaries, and business funding, with partner organisations sharing sector-specific programmes. Thato Molefe said the expo showed her that technology isn’t just for experts, adding, “I now see how I can use digital platforms to earn and even start a business.”


Siyabonga Ndlovu appreciated meeting potential employers and funders, saying, “Having access to internships, bursaries, and funding all in one place gives me hope for our future in the digital space.”


Key partners included GREYCODE, Creators Ark, Fundi, Harambee, NEMISA, and FNB South Africa, supporting young innovators to explore opportunities and thrive in the digital world.
