The City of Johannesburg today successfully conducted a High Impact Service Delivery Operation in Ward 5, following the postponement of the originally scheduled operation on Thursday, 05 March 2026, due to inclement weather conditions.
The operation took place on Monday, 09 March 2026, with the Poortjie Multipurpose Centre serving as the central meeting point for participating municipal entities.
The initiative followed a dry run inspection conducted on 03 March 2026 by the Ward 5 Urban Inspector, during which several service delivery challenges were identified across streets in Poortjie. The findings informed a coordinated intervention, aimed at addressing priority issues affecting the community.
Multiple municipal departments and entities participated in the operation, each focusing on their respective service mandates.
City Power attended to non-functional streetlights where cables were missing and installed 200 solar streetlight fittings across Poortjie streets, to improve visibility and enhance community safety.
Pikitup cleared two illegal dumping sites located along Thwala Drive and Intuthuko Street, restoring cleanliness in the affected areas.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) carried out road infrastructure improvements, including road markings, the installation of a pedestrian crossing near Thusa Setjhaba Primary School, and the installation of two stop signs to improve road safety.
City Parks conducted grass cutting and tree pruning to improve the general environment and maintain public spaces.
Representatives from Community Relations and Urban Management (CRUM), including AFSU and ISD, were also present to support coordination and ensure that service delivery interventions were implemented effectively.

The collaborative effort reflects the City’s continued commitment to responsive, coordinated service delivery aimed at improving living conditions and addressing community concerns in Ward 5.
The City of Johannesburg will continue to work closely with communities and municipal entities to ensure that service delivery challenges are addressed promptly and effectively.
