FlySafair has resumed its scheduled flights to and from Hoedspruit Airport (HDS) from 17 February 2026, following the successful refurbishment of the airport’s main runway. The runway had been severely damaged by the devastating floods that struck Limpopo in January.
During the disruption, Hoedspruit Airport remained partially operational. Smaller carriers continued operating via the shorter secondary runway, but the main runway, required for larger commercial aircraft such as those in FlySafair’s fleet, sustained significant damage and was deemed unsafe. Extensive repair and refurbishment work has now restored the runway, allowing full commercial operations to resume safely.
“We are thrilled to be back at Hoedspruit and reconnecting our passengers with this beloved destination,” said Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair. “The damage to the main runway was extensive, and while we know the suspension of services was frustrating, safety could not be compromised. Smaller aircraft continued using the shorter runway, but our fleet requires the full length and structural integrity of the main runway. We are grateful to the airport authorities for completing the repairs and are proud to be back in the air on this route.”
FlySafair’s return restores a vital link for leisure and business travellers, particularly those travelling to the renowned Kruger National Park region and the broader Limpopo tourism corridor. The airline looks forward to serving this route and encourages passengers to book their journeys at www.flysafair.co.za.
