HOW often do we witness Mzansi’ two big teams lose matches prior to the derby?
Well, in short, that is the reality that Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates find themselves in the 2025/26 season.
Amakhosi were handed a humbling defeat by Stellenbosch FC in a match that they dominated from the first minute of the game till the end.
Had Chiefs won that match, the results would have put them in a better position in terms of the points to challenge for the league title.
Now Chiefs who have accumulated 30 points from 16 matches played thus far this season, compared to Pirates who are on second position but played a game more, have to beat Pirates to keep their hopes of ever winning the league alive.
Pirates on the other hand have 38 points behind the log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who have the same number of points from 17 games played.
Pirates before the derby, they lost back-to-back matches one in the league and the other in the Nedbank Cup last 16.
Now both Pirates and Chiefs have to do better to ensure that they collect maximum points the results thier fans are looking forward to after the 90 minutes. Kickoff is at 15h30.
The game will be as usual played at FNB Stadium. It’s a sold out encounter, but Ezimtoti News and Betway are giving fans double tickets to go and watch the game.
S’bonise and win.
