South Africa is celebrating a proud moment as the Class of 2025 achieves a historic 88% matric pass rate, the highest in the country’s history. The results were officially announced by Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube, marking a powerful victory for learners, teachers, parents, and the entire education system.
More than 900,000 learners wrote the National Senior Certificate exams, making this the largest matric group ever. Despite challenges, they showed courage, discipline, and hope. Their success proves that hard work still opens doors.
KwaZulu-Natal led the nation with an impressive 90.6% pass rate, followed closely by Free State and Gauteng, both near 89%. Every province recorded strong results, showing that progress is being made across the country
The Minister confirmed that the results were fully checked and approved by Umalusi, ensuring they are fair and credible. She praised learners for earning their success and reminded the nation that these marks were not given, they were worked for.
Nearly half of all successful learners achieved Bachelor passes, giving them access to universities. Many others earned Diploma and Higher Certificate passes, opening different paths to skills, training, and careers.
This is more than a number. It is a story of resilience, growth, and national pride. The Class of 2025 has lifted the flag high and shown what is possible.
South Africa salutes you. Your future begins now.
