NKANDLA HAS A NEW MAYOR !

By Charmaine Nkosi

The experience of the newly appointed mayor in Nkandla is expected to help her overcome challenges in bringing development to the people.

Councillor Nonhlanhla Nzuza was officially inaugurated into the position of Mayor of Nkandla yesterday.

Nzuza joined the council in 2000 as a ward councillor and later became a member of the executive committee in the municipality, giving her 25 years of experience.

She comes from the IFP party. Her appointment follows the vacancy that opened in December last year, after the passing of the former Mayor, councillor Mbhekiseni “Bhejane” Biyela.

Nzuza has taken over the mayoral duties, having previously served as Deputy Mayor from 2016 until April 14, 2025.

The Deputy Mayor position has been filled by Councillor Nokuthula Magubane, who was inaugurated alongside Nzuza.

In her speech after her appointment, Nzuza said she feels humbled to have the opportunity to lead this council, which serves over 128742 people, including 28609 women.

“This is a historic day, I must say. I did not expect to get this position, even though I have run in all the wards,” said the mayor.

“To the people of Nkandla, I promise that they will see the development they have been waiting for,” adding that Nkandla Municipality has 14 wards, and they expect to reach all of them.
