Youth Tech Expo G13 Hack Inspires Future Innovators in Gauteng

The Gauteng Department of e-Government successfully hosted the two-day Youth Tech Expo G13 Hack, held at Centenary Hall in Mogale City on 4 and 5 June 2026.

The event brought together government institutions, industry partners and technology stakeholders committed to empowering young people through digital skills development and innovation.

The expo was designed to equip West Rand youth with digital skills and provide exposure to advanced technologies that foster innovation and entrepreneurship.

Participants were encouraged to think beyond traditional career paths and embrace technology as a powerful tool for creating solutions, building businesses and unlocking employment opportunities.

The event created a platform for young people to showcase their talents, explore emerging technologies and develop the skills required in today’s digital economy.
Organisers emphasised the importance of nurturing a new generation of creators and innovators who can contribute to economic growth within local communities and across South Africa.

The expo inspired young people to adapt to changing times and pursue careers in science, technology and innovation.
Government’s commitment to youth innovation speaking at the event, Gauteng MEC for e-Government, Bonginkosi Dlamini, reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting young innovators.
“We believe that the youth of Gauteng possess the creativity, talent and technological capability to develop solutions that can transform communities and improve government service delivery,” he said.

He said through the Youth Tech Expo G13 Hackathon series, they are creating a platform for young people to shape the digital future of their province.
A key objective of the expo was to address challenges facing the Gauteng G13 municipalities. Participants were encouraged to develop innovative, technology-driven solutions that could assist government departments in improving service delivery and promoting community development.
The initiative also strengthened collaboration between government and young people, encouraging active participation in shaping the future of local communities through innovation.


Hands-on Learning Sparks Creativity
The programme concluded with practical activities and an innovation challenge, where participants designed electrical models, explored computer and mobile technology concepts, and developed creative solutions to real-world problems.
