ON Sunday, April 26, football fans across South Africa and beyond will turn their eyes to the iconic FNB Stadium, where the legendary Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates promises to deliver another thrilling chapter in one of Africa’s most intense football rivalries.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. In the previous encounter, Amabhakaniya handed the Phefeni boys a humbling 3-0 defeat, leaving their supporters hungry for redemption.
Now, with the next derby looming, the question in many people’s mouths is: Will Chiefs rise to the occasion and reclaim bragging rights?
Can they channel their disappointment into a victorious performance that will electrify their fans and restore pride?
Kaizer Chiefs have been working diligently in training and tactical preparation, determined to overturn the previous result. Their attacking lineup looks sharper, and the team has shown resilience in recent matches, winning five league matches in a row.
Chiefs skipper Brandon Petersen, is excited about his performance and he might be part of the squad that will face Pirates on Sunday if he gets selected.
He did not form part of the squad that played Pirates in the first round of the Betway Premiership due to an injury. Said Petersen:
“obviously it was disappointing that I couldn’t be part of the derby, you know, and obviously disappointing result as well.
“And this time around, I don’t think this added pleasure. I think the stakes are high, but it’s an exciting game,” he said .
“You know, people are motivated. Like I said earlier, the physio rooms are empty. Everyone wants to play, you know. So for me, it’s an opportunity. And it’s been a good week leading up to the game. We’re excited and looking forward to it and come Sunday. Soldiers will be ready.”

Petersen said they’re a team that is determined to do well and finish high on the Betway Premiership table this season far better than they did in their previous few seasons.
Meanwhile Pirates, proud holders of the last derby win, will be equally motivated to defend their dominance and prove that their previous victory was no fluke.
The FNB Stadium will undoubtedly be a cauldron of emotion and passion. Thousands of supporters from both sides will as usual fill the stands, their chants echoing as the players battle not just for points, but for legacy and honour.
Kick-off is at 3pm and supporters are encouraged to arrive to the stadium as early as possible to allow the game to start on time.
