Orlando Pirates came alive under the bright Orlando Stadium lights on Tuesday night, defeating a determined Magesi FC 2-1 to march into the Carling Knockout Cup semi-finals. It was a proud response from the Soweto giants after their recent struggles – a reminder that true champions never stay down for long.

From the first whistle, Pirates looked sharper, hungrier, and more purposeful. They dominated possession and piled pressure on the visitors, but Magesi’s goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze, refused to bow. His acrobatic saves kept his side in the game, frustrating Pirates’ forwards and earning him applause from all corners of the stadium.

After a tense first half, the breakthrough finally arrived in the 51st minute. Tshepang Moremi unleashed a thunderbolt from outside the box – a goal so clean it left even Chipezeze stranded. The stadium exploded in celebration, black-and-white flags waving proudly as chants of “Up the Bucs!” echoed through the night.

Magesi pushed back bravely, testing Pirates’ defence with quick counterattacks, but the home side’s quality shone through. In the 87th minute, Evidence Makgopa finished off a smooth team move, doubling the lead and sealing the victory.

Magesi managed a late consolation from Lehlogonolo Mokone’s free kick, but the night belonged to the Buccaneers.

This was more than a win – it was a revival. Pirates looked united, confident, and ready to fight for silverware again. Their fans left the stadium singing, knowing their team’s fire had been reignited.
