City of Joburg welcomes the secondment of the Acting City Manager by MEC Mamabolo

The Acting Executive Mayor welcomes the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Tradition Affairs in Gauteng, Mr Jacob Mamabolo’s decision to second the Acting City Manager to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality in terms of Section 54A.(6) of the Local Government Municipal Systems Act No.32 of 2000 as amended and as read with the regulation 20 of Local Government.

This development follows the Municipal Council resolution of the 18th June 2025 which resolved to request the MEC for Local government in the province to second a person to act in the vacant position of the City Manager until the suitable person is appointed.

The Acting Executive Mayor welcomes the MEC secondment of Mr Kiba Kekana as the Acting City Manager with effect from the 30th June 2025. 

This secondment will play a crucial role in the stability of the City of Johannesburg as we manage the transition of the political and administrative leadership, said Acting Executive Mayor, Cllr Kenny Kunene.

Accordingly, we wish to confirm that Mr Kiba Kekana will assume the Acting City Manager responsibilities with immediate effect in order to ensure certainty in the interest of governance and service delivery in Johannesburg.

Accordingly, the Acting Executive Mayor wishes to assure the residents of Johannesburg that the service delivery will continue without disruptions notwithstanding this transition.
