The African National Congress (ANC) held its January 8th anniversary celebration at Nkone Maruping Hall in Braamfischerville, Soweto. The event formed part of the movement’s nationwide activities marking 114 years since the ANC was founded on 8 January 1912.
The celebration brought together ANC leaders, members, and supporters from across Gauteng to renew commitment to the values of unity, service, and decisive action. According to ANC Gauteng, the gathering reaffirmed the organisation’s resolve to fix local government, improve service delivery, and strengthen organisational renewal in communities.
The Braamfischerville event aligned with the ANC’s official January 8 Statement for 2026, issued earlier by the National Executive Committee. That statement set out the party’s priorities for the year, including restoring trust in public institutions, improving local government performance, and accelerating economic transformation. Provincial celebrations were held to reinforce these national priorities at community level.
ANC Gauteng leaders addressed supporters at the event, emphasising that the anniversary was not only a celebration of history, but a call to action. Messages shared through official ANC channels stressed unity, discipline, and hard work as essential to meeting the challenges facing communities in 2026.
