Orlando Pirates were left frustrated after dropping crucial points in a 1-1 Betway Premiership draw against Siwelele FC in a tightly contested encounter at Orlando Amstel Arena.
The Buccaneers entered the clash determined to keep pace in the title race, but it was the visitors who struck first. Against the run of play, Vincent Pule capitalised on a swift attacking move in the 29th minute, calmly finishing to silence the home crowd and hand Siwelele a surprise lead.
Pirates dominated much of the opening half, controlling possession and probing for openings, yet a disciplined defensive display from Siwelele ensured the visitors carried their advantage into the break.
The home side responded shortly after halftime. Pirates’ persistence finally paid off in the 51st minute when Tshepang Moremi found the back of the net, restoring parity and reigniting hopes of a comeback victory for the Soweto giants.
From that moment, Pirates turned up the intensity. Wave after wave of attacks followed as the Buccaneers pushed aggressively for a winner. However, despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities, they were repeatedly denied by resolute defending and determined goalkeeping from Siwelele.
In the end, the match finished 1-1, a result that will feel like two points dropped for Pirates after dominating large stretches of the encounter. For Siwelele, however, the draw represents a hard-earned and valuable point against one of the league’s heavyweights.
