THIS is not the right time for Siwelele FC to play Mamelodi Sundowns, especially after parting ways with their head coach, Lehlohonolo Seema.
Masele will have a mountain to climb when the two sides lock horns for the first time this season, following an embarrassing defeat on 9 May, when they lost 7-4 in an 11-goal thriller. Siwelele have not started the 2026/27 season well . So far they’re in 14th position after five matches, with no win as yet. They have lost three games and drawn two and this is not a good record hence the team decided to change coach, but the question is, will the interim coach Godfrey Mosoetsa, turn things around?
The match is playing at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, with kick-off at 7:30pm. Fawaaz Basadien after previewing their match against Siwelele, this is what he had to say:
“I think it’s just a matter of consistency, as well as just the belief I showed throughout my time arriving here. It hasn’t been the start I wanted to have, but with my belief and my mindset, I think my positive mindset, my positive attitude that I had, that’s what kept me going,” he said adding that whenever given the chance, he needed to do better to make sure they collect the maximum points.
Meanwhile, Bafana Ba Style are sitting at the summit of the Betway Premiership with 16 points from six matches. If they win this evening they will extend their lead to 19 points while second-placed Orlando Pirates will have to win their two matches in hand to go back on top of the table again.
Pirates are not playing league matches this week until their CAF Champions League tie against La Cure Waves of Mauritius on Saturday.
Coming to Siwelele, they have been conceding easy goals this season, and in their previous match on Sunday against Kaizer Chiefs, the match which was playing at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, they failed to keep a clean sheet and lost that match 3-2.
Now, without their head coach, things might get even worse.
When Basadien asked about their previous 2-1 win away at Golden Arrows, he said they don’t easily give up.
“I think that is one of the strengths we have as a team, to always grind out results and always have that positive mindset and positive attitude.
“We play until the last minute, no matter what the scoreline is or what’s happening in the game.
“And I think that was key for us as a team, to just keep going.
He went on and on:
“So I think that’s just one of the key aspects we have as a team, to keep going until the last minute.
“But I think that’s important for us to stick to what we want to do and focus on what we want to do to achieve the victory.”
