In an impactful move to provide critical mentorship, positive guidance, and leadership skills to young men, a transformative 1-Day Boys Camp is officially scheduled to take place at the Moletsane Sports Complex on Saturday, 11 July 2026.
Running under the powerful and timely theme, “Arise: Raising Boys of Purpose, Character, and Impact,” the crucial youth development initiative will be spearheaded and hosted by celebrated television presenter, Boy Child Advocate, and reigning Mrs Soweto 2026 Finalist, Phomelelo Mahlaba.
The camp is meticulously designed to create a safe, constructive, and inspiring environment where young boys from across Soweto can engage in life-skills workshops, team-building sports activities, and open dialogue.
Mahlaba’s advocacy centres directly around restoring identity, leadership, discipline, and purpose among young boys. By addressing the unique societal challenges facing young men today, her mission targets the root causes of major community crises, including gender-based violence (GBV), substance abuse, absent fatherhood, youth crime, emotional displacement, and the loss of identity among men.
Proudly Supported by Key Sponsors
This vital community intervention has been made possible through the generous backing and sponsorship of dedicated organisations committed to social change:
The Zodwa Zwane Foundation — Renowned for its community upliftment and empowerment initiatives.
Faithful Steward — Providing key resources and foundational support for youth development.
The Mrs Soweto Pageant — Standing firmly behind its finalists to foster local leadership and grassroots advocacy.
High-Profile Guest Speakers and Dignitaries
To provide deep spiritual, legal, and cultural guidance aligned with the event’s theme, the camp will feature an esteemed lineup of guest speakers who are leading voices in community upliftment and social justice:
Bishop Israel Phiri — Providing spiritual grounding, moral leadership, and character-building mentorship for the youth.
Professor Human Right Dyasi — Renowned human rights advocate, unpacking the importance of rights, responsibilities, and social justice.
Dr Zukisani “Dr Zee” Mxoli — Representing the Imbizo Community Kingdom, bringing essential cultural insight, community leadership, and traditional wisdom to the conversation.
”I strongly believe that to address societal challenges, we must go back to the root,” says Phomelelo Mahlaba. “Our theme this year, ‘Arise: Raising Boys of Purpose, Character, and Impact,’ is a call to action. We must intentionally rebuild, mentor, and affirm the identity of young boys, reminding them of who they are, their value, and their responsibility as future leaders. With the incredible backing of our sponsors—the Zodwa Zwane Foundation, Faithful Steward, and Mrs Soweto—and the wisdom of our guest speakers, we are bringing a powerful, holistic approach to mentoring these future leaders.”
