YOUNG people in Mogale City were given a much-needed business boost when Qoq’uMntwana Foundation hosted a Business Skills Orientation at Kagiso Memorial and Recreation Centre on Tuesday, 22 September.
Led by Esther Mbobo and her team, the initiative focused on giving young people practical knowledge about entrepreneurship, business opportunities, funding and skills development.
With youth unemployment remaining a major challenge, the foundation encouraged young people to look at entrepreneurship as a way to get into the economy, build businesses and create jobs in their communities.
The session also provided information on starting and managing a business, accessing funding and finding training opportunities.
Mbobo said the foundation, working with organisations such as the NYDA, wants to see young people in the West Rand taking charge of their economic future.
“Qoq’uMntwana ‘Mind a Child’ Foundation is calling on all disadvantaged youth and unemployed graduates in the West Rand region to heed the call and take over the township economy and beyond,” she said.
Participant Otshepeng Korae welcomed the initiative, saying she gained valuable knowledge about running a business, marketing, funding and managing finances.
“I have gained more knowledge on how to run a business, how marketing works, where to apply for funding and how to manage my business finances,” she said.
The foundation’s team includes Mbuso Bavuma as chairperson, Pemla as secretary, Mbobo as treasurer and Precious Majova as organiser.
The programme ended with participants engaging with facilitators about available NYDA business, funding and training opportunities.
