MEC MAILE TO INTENSIFY SCHOOL SAFETY OPERATIONS AFTER TWELVE SCHOOLS SEARCHED ACROSS FOUR GAUTENG REGIONS

Following successful SAPS-led school search and seizure operations over the past three weeks, twelve schools across four Gauteng regions have been searched as part of intensified efforts to strengthen school safety. Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, will on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, continue school safety operations aimed at tackling crime, substance abuse, gangsterism and the possession of dangerous weapons in Gauteng schools. Starting point will be at Loate Police Station in Winterveld.

The operations form part of the MEC’s commitment to strengthening school safety and ensuring that learners and educators are able to learn and work in safe and secure environments.

Previous searches have resulted in the recovery of knives, suspected illegal substances, dangerous objects, disposable vapes, cigarettes and other prohibited items from school premises.
