The Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) is bringing together councillors and key stakeholders for a major Councillors’ Imbizo and stakeholder engagement focused on the fight against substance abuse and improving service delivery.
The event will take place on Friday, 24 October 2025, at the Alberton Civic Centre in Johannesburg, starting at 08h30.
This gathering forms part of the provincial government’s ongoing commitment to strengthen cooperation between municipalities, communities, and the provincial administration. It also aims to report back on the progress made since the last Councillors’ Imbizo held in December 2024, following the Gauteng Government Turnaround Summit of October 2024.
The session will provide updates on several key areas, including:
Progress reports on municipal performance and turnaround strategies.
Partnerships developed through the Premier’s Stakeholder Engagement to improve collaboration between government and communities.
Preparations for the 2026 Local Government Elections, with a focus on readiness and intergovernmental coordination.
Officials say the Imbizo will help councillors better understand the provincial government’s priorities and how municipalities can play a stronger role in addressing issues like substance abuse, which continue to affect many communities across Gauteng.
By creating a platform for open dialogue and shared solutions, the Gauteng government hopes to drive meaningful change and ensure that local leaders are equipped to deliver quality services and safer communities.
