Great businesses often begin with a simple question: What if things could be done differently?
For hospitality entrepreneur Pamela Niemand, that question became the foundation of a business journey that would help transform the accommodation landscape in South Africa.
As the country observes Women’s Month, Pamela’s story stands as an example of what can happen when vision is supported by discipline, resilience and the courage to challenge established ways of doing business.
At a time when traditional hotels dominated the accommodation sector, Pamela identified a growing need for something different. Travellers wanted the convenience and service of a hotel, but they also wanted the privacy, flexibility and comfort associated with home.
She acted on that insight.
Her vision led to the launch of what is widely recognised as South Africa’s first apartment hotel, introducing an alternative hospitality model that would go on to become increasingly popular among corporate and extended-stay travellers. The journey did not stop with the creation of one property.
Today, the Executive Apartment Hotel Group has expanded its portfolio to include Ellipse Executive Apartments in Waterfall City, Lux Leisure and One Rosebank Executive Apartment Hotel.
For Pamela, expansion has never simply been about acquiring properties. It has been about building a brand with purpose and creating experiences that people remember.
Her approach to hospitality is grounded in excellence, consistency and genuine care for people. Whether accommodating a guest for a single night or several months, she believes every person should feel valued and welcomed.
That philosophy extends to the people behind the business. Job creation, skills development and leadership opportunities remain important pillars of Pamela’s entrepreneurial journey. She believes businesses should not only generate revenue but should also contribute to the communities and economies in which they operate. Her journey has also positioned her as an advocate for young entrepreneurs who aspire to build businesses of their own.
Pamela encourages young people to understand that success is rarely immediate. It requires discipline when motivation disappears, resilience when circumstances become difficult and the ability to remain committed to a vision long before the results become visible.
Her own journey reflects that philosophy.
As she continues to grow her entrepreneurial interests through partnerships and investments across various sectors, Pamela remains focused on building sustainable ventures capable of creating long-term value.
Her ambition is clear: to see the Executive Apartment Hotel Group grow into a globally recognised African hospitality brand while retaining the values that shaped its beginnings.
This Women’s Month, Pamela Niemand’s journey reminds us that a single bold idea, when backed by determination and purpose, can become much bigger than the person who first imagined it. It can become a legacy.
