Nearly 5 000 runners and walkers brought heart, hustle and high energy to the streets of Gqeberha this weekend as the 2026 Absa Run Your City Gqeberha 10KM officially kicked off the new road running season.

Now in its fourth year, the Gqeberha leg of the Absa Run Your City Series delivered an electric atmosphere. From first-time 10KM runners stepping up with nervous excitement, to experienced athletes chasing personal best times, and dedicated walkers moving with pride, the race welcomed every pace and every story.
This year’s theme, “Take Your Story to the Streets. Take It to the Max,” was clear from start to finish. Thousands pushed through the kilometres with determination and passion, turning the race into more than just a competition, it became a celebration of resilience and community spirit.
Absa’s Head of Sponsorship, Jabu Nsibanyoni, said the event continues to grow beyond the finish line. Through the R1 Campaign, every kilometre logged by Team Absa members on Strava helps raise funds for school vegetable gardens across South Africa. So far, more than R10 million has been raised, making every step count for a greater cause.
With Gqeberha setting the pace, attention now shifts to the next stop, the Absa Run Your City Cape Town 10KM on 10 May in Cape Town.
The streets are calling. Lace up and be part of the movement.
