THE Brotherhood Men’s Forum, based in Soweto, recently hosted a men’s awareness campaign aimed at creating a safe space for men to discuss important issues affecting their lives.

The campaign was held at Emdlaleni School in Mzimhlophe, Soweto, on Saturday, 15 August.

The initiative encouraged men to openly discuss topics including spirituality, beliefs, well-being, family and finances.

Chairperson of the Brotherhood Men’s Forum, Siphiwe Tshabalala, encouraged men to take initiatives such as these seriously, saying they play an important role in helping men navigate the challenges of the modern world.

“I would like to encourage all men to attend the Brotherhood Men’s Forum initiatives because we want men to know that, at Brotherhood, we have created a safe space where men are allowed to release, educate and learn,” said Tshabalala.

One of the speakers at the event was Dr Zukisani Mxoli, popularly known as Dr Zee.

Speaking about the importance of spirituality, Dr Zee said men need to be deeply rooted in their spiritual beliefs to build inner strength.

“Spirituality has to build us. If you are not deeply rooted in your spirituality, it means you are empty. Words will break you. If people say bad things to you, you will eventually overreact. But our spirituality should build us to be stronger,” he said.

The campaign highlighted the importance of men having spaces where they can speak openly, learn from one another and address challenges affecting their families, communities and personal lives.
