Miss African Beauty South Africa 2026 reveals its remarkable Top 20

South Africa’s most exciting beauty and purpose pageant has revealed the 20 extraordinary women who will compete for the title of Miss African Beauty South Africa 2026 which takes place later this year.

Drawn from seven of the country’s nine provinces, this Top 20 is as diverse and accomplished as the nation they represent – PHD, Masters and law candidates, an engineer, educators, researchers, artists and entrepreneurs – united by a shared commitment to making South Africa, and Africa, a better place.

Gauteng leads the provincial count with 10 finalists, followed by Limpopo with three while Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape contribute two each and the Western Cape, North West and Kwa-Zulu Natal with one each. Their careers and fields span an impressive range: civil engineering and audiology; criminology and drama therapy; law and cancer biology; digital marketing and graphic design; property management and financial management with several founding their own non-profit organisations and community initiatives. They are, in every sense, beauty with purpose.

A number of finalists are no strangers to the pageant stage. Romanda Hombir was a Miss World South Africa runner up in 2024 while Ontshiametse Tlhopane made the Top 5 at Miss SA 2024. Bajabulise Thela was the inaugural Miss Teen Grand winner in 2021 and Casey Esmeraldo holds the Miss Culture Global Queen 2024 title.

The stakes could not be higher with South African representatives proudly flying the flag at the three most important global pageants.

Miss Supranational 2026 takes place on July 31 at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheatre in Nowy Sącz, Poland. Reigning titleholder Eduarda Braum of Brazil will crown her successor. At the same Top 20 reveal, Shannon Benting was announced as the winner of the Miss African Beauty Miss Supranational 2026 crown and will be South Africa’s official representative.
The remaining Top 20 will now compete to see who represents the country at the other two competitions.

Miss World 2026 is scheduled for September 5 in Vietnam, with the host nation staging the pageant for the very first time. Reigning Miss World 2025, Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, will hand over the crown. The finalist representing this country as Miss World South Africa will be announced in July when the Top 20 is reduced to a Top 12.

Miss Universe 2026 will mark the 75th edition of the pageant, taking place at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Reigning titleholder Fátima Bosch of Mexico will crown her successor. The winner, chosen from the final 12, will be crowned Miss African Beauty South Africa 2026 and be the country’s representative at Miss Universe.

Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala, CEO of African Beauty International and national director of Miss Supranational South Africa, is the driving force behind Miss African Beauty South Africa. A former Miss South Africa 2010 and Miss World Africa 2011 titleholder, she knows exactly what it takes to carry a crown on the world stage.

“Every single one of these women carries something rare – not just beauty, but belief. Belief that she can walk into any room in the world and make South Africa proud. When I look at these contestants, I see engineers, healers, storytellers, founders and fighters. I see women who didn’t wait to be given a platform – they built one. That is exactly the spirit Miss African Beauty South Africa was created to celebrate and amplify. South Africa is ready for her moment on the world stage. And so are they.”

The original Top 30 was selected by an exceptional judging panel. Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala led proceedings, joined by Lalela Mswane, Miss Supranational 2022, Miss South Africa 2021 and Miss Universe second runner-up 2021. South African fashion designer Juan William Aria, whose couture creations have graced the Miss Supranational and Miss Universe stages for over a decade, brought his artistic eye to the selection, as did Nomawothi Bafana, award-winning businesswoman and fitness trainer. From that acclaimed Top 30, the South African public cast their votes to determine the final 20.
