KOPANO MONAHENG

AS THE 2025/26 Betway Premiership season draws to a nail-biting conclusion, Mamelodi Sundowns find themselves in a high-stakes scenario that could determine the fate of their championship title.

With only two matches left in the league, the pressure is mounting on the defending champions to secure victories and score ample goals to fend off the challenge posed by their arch-rivals, Orlando Pirates.

Currently perched at the top of the table, Mamelodi Sundowns have had a season filled with highs and lows. However, as they approach the final stretch, the reality is clear: winning both remaining matches is not just a necessity, but a mandate if they are to retain their crown.

The Tshwane giants are playing Siwelele FC at Lucas Moripe stadium this evening, kick-off is at 17:30. This would be their last match at home this evening, and they are expected to win it with more goals and hope Pirates slips up.

When asked how’s the mood like in the camp after Sundowns 1-all draw with Kaizer Chiefs, Divine Lunga said:
“The boys are in the good mood even though that we wanted to win against Chiefs. But as I can say, like the boys are in a good mood,” adding that they will take one game at a time.

“That’s what we always do. We have to focus on winning our games. Take one game at a time. We’ve been doing it for so long, we can’t change it now.”
Lunga said their game against Chiefs was tough though everyone was expecting them to do better on the day. Right now their focus is on Siwelele this evening and they will do whatever it takes to get the maximum points.

Pirates are away to Magesi FC this evening kick-off is at 8pm. Magesi are facing relegation as they are 16th position on the Betway Premiership table with 21 points from 27 matches.

Pirates on the other hand needs to do well tonight if they’re to contest for the Betway Premiership trophy this season. Winning all their remaining three league matches will put them in a good position to ensure that they are successful.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has been exceptionally competitive this season, with Orlando Pirates hot on the heels of Sundowns. As it stands, if Sundowns falter in their upcoming fixtures, the Pirates will seize the opportunity to claim the championship title—a scenario no one at Chloorkop wants to consider.

If Sundowns fail to garner the necessary points and goals, it could be a day of disappointment for their fans.

To defend their title, Sundowns must focus on two critical aspects: winning and scoring.

Victory in both matches for Sundowns will not only ensure they remain top of the Betway table, but it will also bolster their goal difference, which could be a decisive factor in the end.
