IT’S going to be a hell of a fight between two Betway Premiership sides this afternoon, one on top of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) table and the other at the bottom.
Mamelodi Sundowns FC, who are sitting comfortably at the top of the Betway Premiership table with 19 points from seven games, are playing a team sitting at the bottom of the league with four points from five games played.
Chippa United are not playing badly or something; it’s just that Mpengesi boys need luck to get that one single win of the campaign. So far, Chippa have managed to secure four draws out of the five matches they have played this season and lost just once, so they’re not that bad. If they do better today and win, they will put themselves in a better position.
But Sundowns’ Zuko Mdunyelwa says they’ll not feel pity for the struggling Port Elizabeth side, irrespective of the position they find themselves in early on in the season. Masandawana want three points to stretch their lead to 22 points.
“It is very important for us to understand that when teams are lying where they are lying, they tend to attack in different ways, trying to expose us in certain aspects.
“So, we also understand that the field that we’re going to be playing on is a field where we won and wrapped up the league. It is important for us to continue where we left off the last time we were there and stretch the lead at the top of the log,” he said.
Zuko said they are well aware of the team they’re facing this afternoon. But they are ready for them.
“We are very much prepared for whatever they throw at us. We also have a plan on how to attack them.
“So, it is very important for us to also understand the threats that they will possess and try to limit them as much as we can.
Being mentally strong is what they need this afternoon to make sure that they come home with the maximum points.
The home side match was supposed to have been played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, but that was changed at the eleventh hour and now the game will be played at Buffalo City Stadium in East London, with kick-off at 5:30pm.
