MEN in Swaneville, West Rand, are refusing to sit on the sidelines when it comes to building a stronger community.
Driven by a vision for a better Swaneville, local men established the Swaneville Men’s Forum, a platform where men come together to discuss issues affecting their community, families and the next generation.
The Swaneville Men’s Forum is led by the following executive committee members:
Siyabonga Gumede — Vice President
Mzanele Lucky Ntloko — Chairperson
Bethuel Selaolane — Secretary
Lesley Masumbe — Treasurer
Simo Makwekew, president of the Swaneville Men’s Forum, said the forum is not only about talking. It is also about action, with members working to strengthen families and guide young people, particularly boys, as they navigate the challenges of growing up. Women were also integrated into the executive committee.
He said through mentorship, the men aim to teach boys the importance of responsibility, respect and making positive choices. They want young men to grow up understanding what it means to become responsible men who can build better lives for themselves and their families.
The forum also provides a space for men to openly discuss the social challenges facing their community and find ways to tackle them together.
For the men of Swaneville, the message is simple: a stronger community starts with responsible men who are willing to stand up, speak out and lead by example.
