Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station is currently unable to pump due to a City Power supply interruption.
According to City Power, the interruption followed the precautionary isolation of the Fordsburg Substation at approximately 17:00 today after smoke was detected in its underground cable tunnels.
The impact has extended across the interconnected network, resulting in several substations, including Eikenhof Substation, being switched off.
The interruption to pumping may affect Johannesburg Water systems supplied by Rand Water’s Eikenhof Pump Staton. Areas receiving water through direct feeds may experience an earlier impact, while reservoir and tower levels are expected to decline progressively if pumping remains interrupted for an extended period.

Johannesburg Water systems that may be affected include: Aeroton; the Commando System, comprising Brixton, Crosby and Hursthill; Northcliff; Eagles Nest; Naturena;
Devland; Alan Manor; Honeydew; Boschkop; Corriemore; Constantia; Helderkruin; Florida North; Orlando; Diepkloof; Protea Glen; Meadowlands; Doornkop; Zondi; Jabulani;
Chiawelo; Kensington; Linden; Robertville; Lenasia; and surrounding areas.
The extent of the impact will depend on the duration of the electricity outage, the restoration of pumping and the subsequent recovery of the affected Johannesburg Water systems.
City Power has advised that electricity supply is not expected to be restored today.
An estimated restoration time will be communicated once assessments have been completed and the required scope of work has been established.
Johannesburg Water is closely monitoring system levels and will implement operational measures where necessary to preserve available capacity. Further updates will be issued as information becomes available from City Power and Rand Water
