In the true spirit of Ubuntu and Nelson Mandela’s legacy, Eskom partnered with the Tshwaranang Centre for People with Disabilities to commemorate Mandela Day through its annual 67 Minutes of Service initiative on Friday, 17 July.
Although Mandela Day is officially observed on 18 July each year, Eskom employees marked the occasion by donating food parcels and other essential items to the centre, bringing hope and much-needed support to people living with disabilities.
The initiative honoured the life and legacy of the late former President and anti-apartheid icon, Nelson Mandela, whose lifelong commitment to serving others continues to inspire South Africans to make a positive difference in their communities.
The donated items will assist the centre in providing essential support to its beneficiaries while easing some of the daily challenges faced by the organisation. The gesture also highlighted Eskom’s commitment to giving back and strengthening its relationship with local communities.
Project Manager Patricia Mmola expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the Eskom team for their generosity and encouraging words.
“Always have hope, no matter what happens.”
Her inspiring message reminded everyone in attendance that hope remains a powerful force, even during difficult times, and that acts of kindness can leave a lasting impact on people’s lives.
Through initiatives such as these, Eskom continues to demonstrate that meaningful change begins with small acts of kindness, proving that just 67 minutes of service can make a lasting difference.
The event concluded with the official handover of the donations, with Patricia Mmola receiving the items on behalf of the centre. The occasion was marked by smiles, gratitude, and a shared commitment to keeping Nelson Mandela’s spirit of compassion, service, and Ubuntu alive.
